Dallas - Video rental giant Blockbuster announced on Wednesday that it has signed a deal with The Weinstein Company, for the exclusive rental rights to all of the film studio's titles through 2010.

Blockbuster will have a three-year exclusive on Weinstein titles, and will pay the studio a minimum guarantee based on box office performance, or the acquisition or production costs of direct-to-video titles. The deal does not apply to DVD or video sales.

Weinstein titles will be given special sections in Blockbuster stores and at its online DVD rental service; Blockbuster will also share general trending information with the studio, such as "the types of movies and actors the Blockbuster consumer would like to see more of."

Initial Blockbuster-exclusive Weinstein titles will include "Bobby," "School for Scoundrels," "Grindhouse" and "Shut Up & Sing."

blockbuster gets exclusive rights to weinstein co

This seems like a bad deal for the consumer. Blockbuster already monopolizes the rental market now movie companies are making it even easier for them to put other dvd rental shops out of business
