Ziff Davis to Discontinue Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine

San Francisco - Ziff Davis Game Group, the publisher of Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine, announced on Wednesday that it will discontinue publication of the magazine after the January 2007 issue. The nine-year-old magazine was licensed by Sony exclusively for print, which Ziff Davis said no longer fits the company's strategic vision.

"We are very proud of the magazine and its outstanding editorial team, and we're obviously sad to see it go," said Ziff Davis Game Group president Scott McCarthy. "Unfortunately, given where we are taking the Game Group, it doesn't easily fit into our integrated media network or afford us digital media opportunities."

The company added that its strategy of bundling CDs in the magazine with game demos, videos and trailers is becoming obsolete with the advent of broadband-connected game consoles.

"With the launch of the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system and its full network and Web capabilities, we are focused on delivering content via the PlayStation Network and PlayStation.com website, not discs," Peter Dille, senior vice president of marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment America, said in a separate statement.
