Nintendo DS Lite Pink - Girl Geeks Rejoice

The following is a blog entry from Heather Hopkins at Hitwise: About this time last year, I blogged that Pink is the New Black as kids (and my cousin in particular) raced to get their hands on the Motorola Razr in Pink. Well, pink is hot again this year with pink game consoles all the rage.

I ran a search term suggestion report for "pink" to find out the products that consumers are searching for that include the keyword "pink". The results seem to indicate that geek girls are asserting their love of gadgets and gaming whilst maintaining a feminine touch. The following are the top ten product searches that included the keyword "pink" last week:

I also ran a search term suggestion report for "nintendo ds lite". The #2 and #3 terms that include those words were "nintendo ds lite pink" and "pink nintendo ds lite". Combining these two terms, searches for "nintendo ds lite" only outpace those for the pink version by a factor of three and a half.

Whilst starting from a lower base, searches for the pink version of the gaming console are increasing faster than the generic term. Searches for "nintendo ds lite pink" nearly doubled (up 94%) last week and searches for "nintendo ds lite" increased 19%.

Sony's Playstation is also prominent in the list of pink searches, with "pink ps2" and "pink psp" coming in at #2 and #3 last week in the list of search terms that include the keyword "pink".

In researching this blog post, I did notice something particularly clever. Argos and Amazon UK are bidding on the term "xbox pink" on Google. Whilst there do seem to be pink skins available for the xBox 360, the console is not yet available in pink. Argos' Google ad is headlined "Pink PlayStation" and Amazon's is titled "Pink PS2". Whilst the volume of searches for this term is not high - people searching for the Xbox in pink may be interested in other game consoles... This struck me as pretty clever. Note.
