Cambridge, Mass. - Akamai Technologies said on Monday that it will acquire San Diego-based Nine Systems for $160 million in cash and stock.
Massachusetts-based Akamai, a provider of Internet content delivery network services, said the acquisition will provide it with a rich media management framework aimed at customers wanting to more effectively control and monetize their digital assets. "Nine Systems has established itself as a leader in the creation of powerful Web-based tools for businesses to easily produce, publish, and distribute their streaming and downloadable media," said Paul Sagan, Akamai's president and CEO. Akamai will acquire all of the outstanding stock of Nine Systems by issuing 3.1 million shares of common stock, in addition to providing $7 million in cash.
