Nokia: Average Mobile Gaming Session 28 Minutes LongAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on November 27, 2006 - 3:27pm.
Espoo, Finland - Cell phone maker Nokia on Monday announced results of a survey of mobile phone gamers that found 80% play at least once a week, 34% play every day, and the average mobile gaming session is 28 minutes in length.
The research also found that mobile games are played as much on the go (61%) as they are at home (62%). Mobile gamers also favored the ability to demo a game before purchasing it, with 65% saying they would then prefer to buy the game outright rather than purchase monthly subscriptions (27%). Purchasing games online (34%) was almost as popular as over-the-air (45%) mobile game purchases. Graphical quality (84%) and the ability to use the phone for other purposes while downloading (78%) were the most important features for mobile gamers. "Web 2.0 saw the birth of a new, more empowered use of the internet and with the next generation of mobile gaming we are on the brink of the same evolution," said Jaakko Kaidesoja, Nokia's director of games and multimedia. "These research results further validate that consumers are looking to the next generation of mobile gaming to meet their gaming needs."
