Report: Beatles Songs Coming Soon to iTunesAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on November 27, 2006 - 1:47pm.
New York - Songs by the Beatles may soon be available for purchase on Apple's iTunes Store, according to Fortune magazine. Citing a music industry executive apprised of the talks, details of the deal are still being worked on -- such as the amount of an advance to be paid to the Beatles, and how long any iTunes exclusivity for the band's catalog would last.
The negotiations between Apple and EMI follow on a comment made recently by EMI North America head David Munns, who said that the Beatles would be available online "soon." Apple is also negotiating with EMI for permission to use Beatles music in an iPod ad. One source of contention in the negotiations is Apple Computer's long-running trademark dispute with Apple Corps, the Beatles' record label. The record label has sued the iPod maker for breaching an old deal where Apple Computer promised not to enter the music business.
