Report: "Cyber Monday" Sales Set Single-Day E-Commerce RecordAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on November 30, 2006 - 2:56pm.
Reston, Va. - Online retail sales on "Cyber Monday," the first Monday after Thanksgiving, came in better than expected this year, according to new figures from comScore Networks.
Sales at U.S. retail sites totaled $608 million, up 26% from the year before, making it the "highest single day in retail e-commerce history and the first day ever to break the $600 million threshold," according to comScore. The firm, however, said that it expects to see that mark eclipsed several times in the coming weeks. The top five online shopping destinations on Cyber Monday included eBay, Amazon, Wal-Mart, Dell and Target, each drawing more than 1 million unique visitors.
