Tokyo - Sony Computer Entertainment, the unit responsible for the PlayStation and the company's other video game products, announced on Thursday that it has named Jack Tretton as president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, replacing Kaz Hirai, who has been named president and group chief operating officer of Sony Computer Entertainment.

Tretton was a member of the original management team that launched the PlayStation in 1995.

Hirai replaces Ken Kutaragi as president of Sony Computer Entertainment; Kutaragi will remain CEO of the company, and has additionally been named chairman.

"Kutaragi will focus on overseeing the entire operation rather than day-to-day business,'' said Sony Computer Entertainment spokeswoman Nanako Kato.
