NDS Acquires Residential Gateway Software Firm JungoAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on December 4, 2006 - 2:55pm.
London - NDS, a unit of News Corp. that provides technology for digital pay-TV services, announced on Monday that it has acquired Jungo, a provider of software for residential gateways, in a deal valued at $107.5 million.
Israel-based Jungo's software is used to power residential gateways -- which are being increasingly deployed by telcos as the main service termination point between their broadband networks and consumer home devices like IPTV set-top boxes. The company's software powers gateways made by Cisco, Siemens, Westell and Sagem that are used by broadband pay-TV operators like Qwest, Verizon, NTT and France Telecom. Founded in 1998, Jungo is a profitable company and saw revenues climb more than 100% in the first three quarters of 2006, to $11.4 million. NDS said the acquisition will also allow it to market its Synamedia IPTV system to Jungo's telco customers.
