Baidu.com, a Chinese language Internet search provider, announced today that Dr. William I. Chang has been appointed Chief Scientist, effective January 2007. An expert in search technology Chang will lead Baidu's efforts to enhance user and customer satisfaction for existing and new services.

Chang created the Infoseek natural language search engine that was used for both the web and enterprise applications (named Ultraseek), and was the CTO of Infoseek and VP of Strategy of Go Network, when Disney acquired the company. Chang earned an undergraduate degree in mathematics from Harvard and a PhD in computer science from the University of California, Berkeley for his work in textual search.

Brilliant Technologies announced today that, effective immediately, Rick Riccobono will assume the position of Executive Vice President Digital Rights Management (DRM) at the technology firm. Riccobono is a rights expert and pioneer in digital distribution starting with his tenure at Supertracks (a precursor to iTunes). Riccobono spent 15 years as a senior music publisher with CBS Songs, Screen Gems & Chappell/Intersong and subsequently a decade as a Vice President & Officer of BMI.

Riccobono has moved to New York from California to facilitate spending the bulk of his time on the Qtrax launch. While, under his agreement with the company he remains free to engage in select consulting projects, he expects to remain fully focused on Qtrax. “I have been involved with Qtrax for 3.5 years & have come to feel that this is the project to which I want to link my professional future. I consider Qtrax to be the most exciting thing going on in the music world today."
