Nintendo Cautions Safety With Wii Remote After Broken TV Reports

San Francisco - Nintendo has cautioned owners of its new Wii video game console to keep their hands dry and a tight grip on the device's motion-sensing controller, after reports that some have lost grip and damaged nearby televisions and other objects when the controller went flying, Reuters reported.

A site called WiiHaveAProblem.com has chronicled problems including 13 broken controller wrist straps, 7 televisions and 2 laptops.

Nintendo confirmed for Reuters that "extreme motion" could snap the wrist strap, and advised on its website that gamers should "hold the remote securely and avoid excessive motion during game play.

If your hands become moist, stop and dry your hands." The company also advised players to remove any fragile objects nearby and stay three feet away from the television while using the motion controller.
