Dundee, Scotland - Independent video game developer Realtime Worlds announced on Friday that it has raised $31 million in financing from New Enterprise Associates.

Scotland-based Realtime Worlds was founded by David Jones, who takes credit for having created the "Grand Theft Auto" and "Lemmings" game franchises.

The company's first title, "Crackdown," is slated for release in 2007 by Microsoft Game Studios. Realtime Worlds' massively multiplayer online game "All Points Bulletin" will be published for the PC and Xbox 360 by Korea's Webzen. The company will use the funds to hire additional developers and create original game franchises.
