Los Angeles - U.S. Video game sales for November leapt 34% over the same period last year, to $1.7 billion, according to NPD Group sales data cited by GameDaily.com. Fueled by the release of the Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 3, along with brisk sales of Nintendo's DS, total hardware sales for the month rose 69%, to $771 million.
Nintendo sold 476,000 Wii consoles during November, while Sony sold 197,000 PlayStation 3 consoles; Microsoft's Xbox 360, which had already been on sale for a year, sold 511,000 units during the month. Interestingly, none of the three major consoles outsold Nintendo's DS handheld, which moved 918,000 units during the month. On the game software side, sales were up 15% to $804 million during November. The top selling title was Microsoft's "Gears of War" ($61.5 million), followed by Square Enix's "Final Fantasy XII" ($49 million) and Nintendo's "The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess" ($20.2 million).
