Salzburg, Austria -- The International Mozart Foundation in Austria has published the entirety of the composer's more than 600 works on its website. In addition to 24,000 pages of music, the free site includes more than 8,000 pages of critical reports and commentary on Mozart. The site is essentially a digitized version of the "New Mozart Edition," a scholarly work first published in 1954. The Foundation paid $400,000 to Barenreiter-Verlag for the rights to publish the work online, according to Reuters, with funds provided by the Packard Humanities Institute of Los Altos, Calif. Search functions on the site will allow users to find, study and print any of Mozart's works as PDF files. "We had 45,000 hits in the first two hours...we would not have expected that," program director Ulrich Leisinger told Reuters.
