XBox 360 Had More Buzz at Launch than Nintendo Wii and Sony Playstation 3

Authored by Bill Tancer on December 14, 2006 - 11:17am.
Game consoles in the UK has had a surging popularity this holiday season (excluding Playstation 3 as its not commercially available in the UK), so I decided to post some U.S. data comparing queries for the two popular console "playstation 3" and "Nintendo Wii," as well as last year's holiday hit the Xbox 360.

Some interesting things to note... the combined volume of queries for "Playstation 3" and "Nintendo Wii" during their peaks in November this year do not equal the volume of queries for Xbox 360 last holiday season. Also, spikes in queries for both consoles this year is relatively short lived, possibly due to store scarcity.

In fact, running a search term suggestion report (most common queries containing "playstation 3" and "nintendo wii") reveals several popular queries regarding availability such as; "playstation 3 availability" and "nintendo wii instock."

Nintendo Wii

XBOX 360 is the oldest and boaring console of the lot now. Its to much for a console i.e. music etc. PlayStation 3 I have played in the Uk at a special exibition and the graphics are amazing but the control and system overall is poor. Nintendo Wii will be so much fun and has really hit the gaming world hard this time round. Now the Wii has much more 3rd party support (even PlayStaion and XBOX-only game developers) the Wii is the one for me. Im also a Nintendo fan, having an N64 and GameCube. I can admit the GameCUbe was poor though and only had slight attention now and then through out its life.

This article is false.

This article is false. Nobody types in "playstation 3", they type "ps3". And "Nintendo Wii"?! Come on, who prefixes the console name with the company name? By that logic the search for xbox 360 should be "Microsoft xbox 360". People search using short words: ps3, xbox, wii ...

Try google trends (http://trends.google.com) to see the REAL scoop on what people are searching for. Wii blows away all the others.

Wii

Well, people didn't know much about the wii till really a few month before launch I know countless people who know about xbox 360 but not Wii, because Nintendo was all secretive while Microsoft was blabbing about its console like there was no tomorrow. So in the long run for the amount of people that knew of the 360 and the amount of people that knew of the Wii I'd have to say Wii really did get more hype... plus statistics don't show the hype intensity only the hype amount. Ask any rabid Nintendo fan and 360 fan and you'll see how the Nintendo fan was crazy hyped, while the 360 fan was just excited... hahaha.

To say that the xbox 360 is

To say that the xbox 360 is old and boring is ridiculous for a start. Maybe you haven't heard of one of the finest video games this year, Gears of War, available exclusively for Xbox 360, not to mention the plethora of excellent games already available and the excellent Live service. That is an absolutely ignorant statement, indicative of pathetic "fanboy" mentality. Yes the Wii is an intriguing concept, but so far it has not delivered on it's promise. Wii sports is a laugh, by all means, but there is very little depth when compared to the sports sims on the other systems. Red Steel is one of the most poorly executed FPS games I have ever played and while Twilight Princess is admittedly excellent, it has nothing to do with the motion controls which feel "tacked on" (remember this title was originally scheduled for release on Gamecube). Couple that with the fact that if you look at all the games available cross-platform on Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360, most of these have got better review scores on PS3 and Xbox 360 than on the Wii. Don't get me wrong, I love Nintendo, I own all their consoles, and I really want them to do well with the Wii, but if they want to take the crown from Sony, they have a lot of work left to do. As for Sony and the PS3. Well, they made gaming the massive phenomenon that it is today, so don't think they are going to roll-over without a fight. The point I want to make though is that you shouldn't go around randomly slating any of the next-gen systems for ridiculous reasons such as "it plays music"... or claim that the PS3's control system is "poor" because you are just identifying yourself as an ignorant fool. All of the machines have the potential to be great and anyone who truely loves games will probably buy all three at some point.... I know I will

The 360 has proven it's self

The 360 has proven it's self and is here to stay. The wii is picking up some major steam but with the weaks grsphics processors developers might leave it behind. Not to mention the only games that sell on nintendo consoles are nintendo made games. But last and certanly least is the ps3 which wont be worth buying for years to come at $600 and other machines having 90% of the same titles.
