Palo Alto, Calif. - File-sharing software developer Azureus announced on Tuesday an agreement with BBC Worldwide, to offer BBC TV shows for download by U.S. users on its peer-to-peer service.

Under the terms, Azureus will offer BBC shows like "Doctor Who," "Little Britian" and "The League of Gentleman" for download on its Zudeo service, which uses BitTorrent peer-to-peer distribution technology. Several of the programs offered, including "Red Dwarf" and "Invasion Earth," will be available in the U.S. for the first time through Zudeo.

"We want to ensure that our most popular content -- as well as programs that have rarely been seen in the territory -- are part of the latest dynamic entertainment environment and can reach the largest audience possible," said Beth Clearfield, vice president of program management and digital media for BBC Worldwide.

Palo Alto, Calif.-based Azureus raised $12 million earlier this month in a round of venture capital financing led by Redpoint Ventures. The company said it plans to announce additional content partnerships in the coming weeks, and will eventually offer advanced features like P2P streaming on Zudeo.
