CNET News.com: Polar Rose Developing Web Photo Search TechnologyAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on December 19, 2006 - 1:08pm.
San Francisco - CNET News.com on Tuesday profiled Polar Rose, a Sweden-based start-up developing technology that aims to make it easier to search for photos on the Web. The company creates a 3D version of a 2D photo, at the same time eliminating extraneous factors like lighting and camera angle. The technology then attempts to match the 3D model to others created from photos on sites like Flickr. Polar Rose raised $5.1 million in its first round of funding last month from Nordic Venture Partners, and plans to launch a public beta in the first quarter of 2007.
