Los Angeles - Independent video game developer Riot Games announced that it has raised $1.5 million in its first round of equity funding from undisclosed investors. The company also named Brandon Beck, a former strategic consultant with Bain & Company, as chief executive officer.

Additionally, William Petro was named chief technology and executive producer; Petro has produced over 50 titles over 20-plus years, and served in management positions at Sega and Konami. Marc Merrill, former manager of corporate marketing at Advanstar Communications, will become president and chief marketing officer of the company.

Los Angeles-based Riot Games is currently working on a new game platform and multiplayer title that combines elements of action roleplaying and real-time strategy genres; more details are expected in early 2007.
