MTV Launches "Bananas" Mobile Content Subscription Service
New York - Viacom's MTV Networks on Wednesday launched "Bananas," the company's first MTV-branded mobile content subscription service.
The cross-carrier, direct-to-consumer service will feature exclusive content from MTV, MTV2 and mtvU, including material from "Laguna Beach," "The Real World" and "The Hills."
The company partnered with North Carolina-based Motricity to provide mobile marketplace management on the service. "Bananas" will provide two tiers of service, each offering a mix of MTV programming and ringtones, graphics and wallpapers.
MTV Networks publishes more than 600 clips and 30 hours of video per month in the United States alone, and has partnerships with 70 carriers worldwide.
