Movie rental company Blockbuster said on Wednesday that it reached a year-end goal of 2 million online subscribers, sending its shares up more than 6%. Blockbuster stated that it added more than 500,000 subscribers since the end of the third quarter."Thanks to Blockbuster Total Access, customers no longer have to choose between renting online or renting in-store, and they never have to be without a movie," said said John Antioco Blockbuster Chairman and CEO in a statement. "We believe this compelling and unique offering will make blockbuster.com the fastest growing online DVD rental service in 2007." Blockbuster’s Total Access offering gives online customers the option of returning their DVDs through the mail or exchanging them at a participating Blockbuster stores for free in-store movie rentals. This gives Blockbuster customers a unique benefit not offered by market leader Netflix, which has 5.7 million members.
