Santa Clara, Calif. - Macrovision, a developer of anti-piracy and content production technologies, said on Wednesday that it has paid $43.5 million in cash to acquire San Mateo, Calif.-based Mediabolic, a maker of software for connected consumer electronics devices, such as televisions, set-top boxes and digital video recorders.Macrovision said that the deal extends its capabilities to deliver and enhance digital content to a wide variety of connected consumer electronics devices. The company called Mediabolic's entertainment networking software platform "an ideal complement" to its own content protection, enhancement and delivery technology, which is widely used by Hollywood studios. “Mediabolic’s software is a strong fit with our roadmap to help content owners transition from the world of physical media to the digital world on the strength of our technology and partner ecosystem” stated Fred Amoroso, CEO of Macrovision, of the acquisition. Founded in 1999, Mediabolic was a privately-held company based in San Mateo, California.
