Rogaland, Norway - A sixteen-year-old has become the first citizen of Norway to be charged with copyright infringement for illegal file-sharing, the country's Aftenposten newspaper reported.

The youth is accused of operating the Stavanger Dragon Hub on the Direct Connect file-sharing network, which offered 7,000 films, 150,000 songs and 20,000 video clips.

"We are very pleased that the police have taken charge and will punish the person behind it. This sends a signal that this kind of operation is illegal," Roald Dye, secretary general of the Norwegian Videogram Association, told Norwegian news site Dagbladet.

Authorities are seeking a 60-day suspended sentence and $644 fine for the youth, in addition to a six-figure damages fine from his parents.

"This boy must answer for his conscious actions. He was fully aware that this is illegal," Marte Thorsby, of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, told Dagbladet. "The case is also a powerful signal to parents -- they must pay more attention to what their children are doing."

Charging children? Norway is the last faschist state.

This is sick. Charge children? Good job, music industry. It's only the big companies that will suffer from file-sharing. Small Indie-companies refuse to charge people for sharing music. Time for the consumer to say what they think? The best way is to stop buying their merchandise. They are after your children!
