McLean, Va. - Hoping to fight declining circulation and revenue, three major newspaper publishers, Gannett, McClatchy and Tribune, plan to jointly begin selling display ads for their Internet sites, The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.
Under the plan, the three companies will launch an online ad network, each committing 10% of their online ad space to the project in a bid to win back major national advertisers who have defected to the Internet.
Yahoo also recently announced plans to sell online ads for seven other newspaper publishers. The Journal said that the deal has yet to be finalized.
