Nintendo Raises Profit Forecast on Strong DS Sales

Tokyo - Nintendo on Wednesday raised its fiscal year outlook, crediting strong sales of its dual-screen DS handheld game player, the Associated Press reported.

The company raised its net profit forecast by $167 million, and now expects to pull in $1 billion for its fiscal year, which ends in March. Sales are now expected to top $7.54 billion, up from a previous estimate of $6.19 billion. Nintendo raised its sales forecast for the DS and DS Lite, from 20 million to 23 million units.

The company maintained a previous projection of sales of 6 million of its next-generation Wii consoles by the end of March, but now expects to sell 21 million software units for the console, up from 17 million.
