New York - CBS Corporation's Showtime cable TV network has announced plans to launch a broadband on-demand video game service.

The company partnered with Broadband Libraries, a developer of digital distribution technologies, on a joint venture called On Broadband that will create the private-label service for cable and DSL broadband providers.

Slated to launch in the second quarter of 2007, On Broadband will include free games, a store with over 500 titles available for purchase and download, subscription offerings, and game-related content like reviews, cheats and tips in a 3D environment.

"We've spent the last 18 months developing this new delivery model and have kept gamers top-of-mind so that our service will allow broadband providers to give their subscribers the best possible game experience. This was built from the ground up exclusively for them," said Peter von Schlossberg of Broadband Libraries, who will serve as general manager of On Broadband.
