Park City, Utah - The Sundance Institute announced on Friday that it will offer a selection of the short films in competition at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival for purchase and download from Apple's iTunes Store.

Beginning on Monday, Jan. 22, a selection of the 71 narrative, documentary and animated shorts in competition at the festival will be available on iTunes for $1.99 each.

"I have felt, from the earliest days, that if people really care about independent film, they should pay particular attention to short filmmakers, who are the best indicators of what is coming down the creative pike," said Sundance Institute president and founder Robert Redford.

Also available on iTunes will be free podcasts of filmmaker panels presented at the festival. The Sundance Institute said it will also continue to stream a selection of short films from the festival for free on its website through April. The 2007 Sundance Film Festival runs Jan. 18-28.
