New York - While newspaper circulation continues to decline, traffic to newspaper weblogs is skyrocketing, according to a new report from Nielsen/NetRatings.

The firm said that Web traffic to the blog pages of the top 10 online newspapers grew 210% in December, compared with the same period in 2005.

What's more, unique visitors to the pages accounted for 13% of the newspapers' total December Web traffic, up from just 4% a year ago.

"As Web 2.0 becomes a predominant online consumer model, traditional publishers are adopting interactive forums like blogs," said Carolyn Creekmore, the senior director of media analytics for Nielsen/NetRatings. "It makes perfect sense for online newspapers, where responding to a blog posting is like writing an instant letter to the editor."
