Web-based Instant Messenger Service Meebo Raises $9 Million

Mountain View, Calif. - Meebo, a provider of a Web-based instant messaging service, announced on Thursday that it has raised $9 million in its second round of venture capital financing, led by new investor Draper Fisher Jurvetson and existing shareholder Sequoia Capital.

Venture capitalist Tim Draper will join Meebo's board of directors.

Mountain View, Calif.-based Meebo's online IM service connects users of AIM, Yahoo, MSN, Google Talk, ICQ and Jabber, and is available in a wide range of languages. Its users exchange over 70 million instant messages daily.

The company was launched in September 2005, and previously raised $3.5 million from Sequoia Capital in December 2005.
