Congressional Quarterly to Acquire Services from FedNet

Washington - Congressional Quarterly (CQ), the political media firm, said that it will acquire FedNet's reCap, reClip and Alert services, which allow users to search, replay and post video content of congressional activity following floor debate.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Robert Merry, the president and editor-in-chief of CQ, said that the acquisition is part of his company's strategy to invest in new technologies.

"Clearly, multimedia is becoming as important as text in this regard," said Merry.

reCap allows users to search the text of floor debate and link to a video of that debate. It also allows users to post that video to their website.

The alert service notifies users whenever a specific word or phrase is mentioned on the floor of either chamber -- and transmits a video of the comment.
