El Segundo, Calif. - Ripple, a developer, distributor and programmer of digital TV networks placed in coffee shops and other businesses, announced on Wednesday that it has raised $5 million in its first round of venture capital financing, led by Trinity Ventures and Draper Fisher Jurvetson.

The company's digital network broadcasts news from CBS, sports from ESPN, and entertainment news from E!, in addition to advertising.

El Segundo, Calif.-based Ripple's network includes HD screens in over 375 retail locations -- including screens at Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Diedrich Coffee and Jiffy Lube -- in Southern California and Hawaii, and reaches seven million viewers each month.

The company plans to use the funds to increase its reach in Southern California, and into other major U.S. markets.
