Sacramento, Calif. - The Sacramento Bee, part of the McClatchy family of newspapers, announced on Wednesday the debut of its first subscription-based online service, a $499 per year site called CapitolAlert.com that will focus on California politics.

Bee executive editor Rick Rodriguez called the service a "one-stop shopping place for folks interested in public policy and politics in California," and characterized it as an attempt to "capitalize on our brand as a premier provider of information about California politics and policy."

The site will include exclusive political news and commentary, and provide access to The Bee's politics and government coverage before it is posted on the paper's main website.
