London - The BBC reports that YouTube plans within several months to introduce a means of sharing ad revenue with the creators of the thousands of videos it hosts.

Only those who own the full copyrights to videos they post to the site will be eligible for revenue-sharing, the company said. YouTube rival Revver has already introduced a revenue-sharing model for users who post videos on its site.

YouTube also plans to introduce short video ads that will screen before a user watches a video on the site; company co-founder Chad Hurley told the BBC that options being discussed included a pre-roll ad three seconds in length.

The company is also still working on audio fingerprinting technology that would filter copyrighted videos.

YouTube has taken down numerous copyrighted clips at the request of major networks and studios; last week, Fox served YouTube a subpoena seeking the identity of a user who posted full episodes of TV shows including "24" before their broadcast premieres.
