Mobile Payments Provider Obopay Acquires "Social Money" Firm BillMonk

Redwood City, Calif. - Obopay, a provider of mobile payment services, said on Tuesday that it has acquired BillMonk, a developer of "social money" services designed to help friends, roommates, family members and co-workers more easily share expenses.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

In connection with the acquisition, Seattle-based BillMonk said that it is introducing a new payment method that allows users to settle up instantly using Redwood City, Calif.-based Obopay's mobile payments service.

The companies said that they plan to unveil new features to both services in the months ahead.
