Disney Sells 1.3 Million Films on iTunes in First Three Months

New York - Disney has seen its films downloaded over 1.3 million times since placing some of them for sale on Apple's iTunes Store in October, chief executive Bob Iger said in an interview on FT.com, the website of the Financial Times.

Other studios have been reluctant to follow, as retailers including Target have expressed concerns about the effect on DVD sales.

"If we don't put our content on these platforms, which the consumer has obviously embraced, other entities will create content and fill that void," Iger told FT.com.

Iger added that selling films online is "creating more consumption of media…The message that we deliver to our traditional [retail] partners is that the pie is getting bigger."
