Reston, Va. - Electronics giant Sony is the "anonymous" company that won a recent auction for the assets of IPIX, a Reston, Va.-based imaging technology firm that filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in July, SecurityinfoWatch.com reported.

Sony acquired the company's Gigapixel camera technology for $3.6 million at the Jan. 19 auction, which took place in Tennessee.

The identity of the winning bidder had not been previously disclosed.

Sony recently launched a line of cameras and systems featuring video analytics. IPIX, a maker of high-resolution 360-degree video cameras, ceased operations after failing to land additional financing last summer.
