Video Game Lawyer Jack Thompson Faces Disciplinary Proceedings

Miami - Jack Thompson, a vocal critic of violence in the media who has filed numerous lawsuits against video game publishers, now faces disciplinary proceedings at the hand of the Florida Bar Association, over allegedly false and disparaging statements he made against a judge and several lawyers, Daily Business Review reported.

Grievances against Thompson were filed by the Florida Bar, Judge James Moore, and lawyers at several Florida-based law firms.

During the course of a lawsuit in Florida against the makers of the violent game "Grand Theft Auto," Thompson allegedly "took steps to intimidate opposing counsel," and sent letters questioning the integrity of presiding Judge James Moore and disparaging the law firms involved in the case.

One letter accused Miami attorney Alberto Cardenas of "distribution of pornography to children."

For his part, Thompson has sued the bar associations in both Florida and Alabama, alleging their complaints violate his religious freedom, as he claims he is motivated by his Christian faith.

In his filings, Thompson says he "seeks to be left alone to serve God in the fashion that God has chosen, not in the fashion that two liberal bars would choose."

Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Dava Tunis will referee the proceedings in Florida; both sides will then have a chance to appeal, with the Florida Supreme Court given the final say on any disciplinary actions.
