Sunnyvale, Calif. - Yahoo on Thursday debuted a new service designed to make it easier for users and developers to create "mashups," or applications created by combining different Web-based services.
Currently in beta, Yahoo Pipes currently works with RSS and Atom data feeds, and allows for the creation of applications that, for instance, combine online maps, calendars or online auctions with other relevant data feeds.
The company said the idea for Yahoo Pipes came from the Unix operating system, which allows developers to create a pipeline of connected data sources.
