Sony in Talks for Movie Rights to Konami's "Metal Gear Solid" Game

Los Angeles - Sony's Columbia Pictures is in talks to acquire the motion picture rights to Japanese developer Konami's "Metal Gear Solid" video game, which to date has generated more than $1 billion and 20 million unit sales, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The game's plot revolves around a Special Forces operative tasked to protect a nuclear facility in Alaska. In addition to video games, the franchise has also generated sales of 200,000 comic books and 1.5 million action figures.

The game's designer, Hideo Kojima, would be named executive producer on the project, with Michael De Luca serving as producer on the studio side, THR reported.
