Barcelona - U.K.-based mobile music firm Omnifone on Monday announced the upcoming launch of its mobile music download service in Europe and Asia.

The company was founded in 2003 by a group that previously launched online publisher Silicon.com and software developer Cromwell Media.

Omnifone said its full-track download service has licensed dozens of major labels, and will be available for a weekly subscription rate of about $3.88.

The service is set to launch later this year with Norway's Telenor ASA and South Africa's Vodacom, with further deployments in Europe and Asia expected soon after.

"We will ensure the vast majority of Europeans have the freedom to choose MusicStation by the time iPhone arrives in Europe," said Omnifone CEO Rob Lewis.
