San Francisco - Zinio Systems, a provider of digital publishing services for books and magazines, announced on Tuesday that it has been acquired for an undisclosed sum by Gilvest, an investment group owned by entrepreneur David H. Gilmour.

San Francisco-based Zinio distributes more than 1,200 digital magazine titles and textbooks from more than 240 publisher partners; since 2002, Zinio has delivered more than 65 million digital publications.

The company will retain its current management team.

"[Zinio] represents the most important fundamental change in the last 150 years of publishing and distribution," said David Gilmour. "Zinio is the solution to the problems of waste, pollution and escalating costs in conventional print publishing."

Gilmour's other ventures include FIJI Water, South Pacific Hotel Corporation, Barrick Gold, TrizecHahn and VIV Publishing.
