New York - CBS Corporation will participate in a new $7 million round of venture capital financing for Electric Sheep, a company that develops 3D properties within virtual worlds like Second Life and There.com, Reuters reported.

Other participants in the round included previous investor Gladwyne Partners.

"We believe that all these virtual worlds represent next generation communications platforms," CBS Interactive president Quincy Smith told Reuters.

Electric Sheep previously partnered with CBS' Showtime Networks to design a virtual property for its series "The L Word" within Second Life, and is also developing a "Star Trek"-themed property for CBS in the virtual world.

Other Electric Sheep clients include Reuters, AOL, NBC and Viacom.
