Motorola Delays iRadio Release Over Wireless Carriers' Objections

New York - Motorola has indefinitely delayed the release of its iRadio service, which had been in beta testing for over a year and was touted as the company's mobile radio solution, Billboard.biz reported.

Motorola's Dave Ulmer told Billboard that U.S. wireless networks were more interested in a service that utilized their own networks for delivery; the iRadio platform transfers cached Internet radio streams to phones directly from a PC.

Ulmer added that iRadio is more appealing to Asian and European network operators, but Motorola has not yet licensed music for distribution on the service in those regions.

Motorola will now make "some major revisions" to the service, according to Billboard.
