Sony to Ship 2 Million PlayStation 3s to U.S. by End of March

San Francisco - Sony has affirmed plans to ship 2 million PlayStation 3 video game consoles to North American retailers by the end of March, and expects shipments to have offset early shortages of the consoles in U.S. stores by May, Reuters reported.

"April or May is when we feel like we're going to catch up to demand and have product fully in stock across North America and stay there," Sony Computer Entertainment America CEO Jack Tretton told Reuters.

Tretton also addressed reports of excess, as opposed to lack of PlayStation 3s on some retailers' shelves.

"It's a testament to the fact that we've been able to manufacture and ship units on a greater pace than any previous console," Tretton said.

"Our goal is to fill shelves across the United States. Our goal is not to have empty shelves, it's to have full shelves."
