New York - Verizon Wireless on Thursday launched its live mobile TV service in around 20 markets in the Midwest and Western U.S., offering an initial selection of eight channels for $15 to $25 per month, the Associated Press reported.

The V Cast Mobile TV service runs on a separate network operated by Qualcomm, and at launch will support a single handset from Samsung, with another from LG coming in several weeks.

The 24-hour, live TV channels available on the service include CBS Mobile, Comedy Central, ESPN, Fox Mobile, MTV, NBC 2Go, NBC News and Nickelodeon.

The service will initially be available in markets including Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Seattle, Denver, Las Vegas and Omaha.

Wireless carrier AT&T (Cingular) is also expected to launch Qualcomm's MediaFlo TV service later this year.
