Santa Monica, Calif. - Video game publisher Activision announced on Tuesday that it will acquire DemonWare, an Ireland-based developer of network middleware technologies for console and PC games.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Santa Monica, Calif.-based Activision has used DemonWare's technologies since 2005, most recently on its "Call of Duty 3."

DemonWare offers community services for multiplayer gaming, such as player matching, as well as a cross-platform network engine that secures and speeds console-to-console communications.

"The acquisition of DemonWare will enable us to eliminate many of the challenges associated with online multiplayer game development, reducing development time and risk, and allowing us to deliver consistent, high-quality online gaming experiences," said Mike Griffith, CEO of Activision Publishing.
