San Francisco – Telephia, a provider of syndicated consumer research to the telecom and mobile media markets, reported at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) a 61% revenue increase to $151 million in the mobile games market in Q4 2006, according to a press release by the company. Also in Q4, Telephia found that 17.4 million mobile customers downloaded a game, a 45% increase from the previous year.

The mobile games market’s growth potential can be attributed, in part, to its cross-gender appeal. Indeed, 65% of all games are purchased by women, according to Telephia.

“The mobile game industry has seen strong growth very quickly with titles that appeal to a broad demographic. However, the industry is faced with a new challenge in order to sustain its growth. Several new mobile content services such as mobile video and full-track music are also competing for the mobile consumers’ attention and wallet,” said Kanishka Agarwal, Vice President of Mobile Content, Telephia.
