Seattle - Getty Images, a provider of stock photography services, announced on Monday that it has acquired Glasgow, Scotland-based Scoopt, an aggregator and distributor of user-generated, newsworthy photos and videos.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Seattle-based Getty Images plans to invest in technology upgrades for Scoopt and then begin incorporating user-generated content "that meets [our] stringent editorial quality standards" into its distribution offering in the coming months.

Getty Images said that citizen photographers who submit imagery to Scoopt retain copyright while granting the agency a one-year exclusive license that authorizes re-licensing to one or more publishers.

Scoopt has distributed photos including those taken by a bystander during the plane crash in Manhattan in October 2006 that killed New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle and his flight instructor; those photos appeared on the front page of The Times of London.
