MuchMusic Prepaid MasterCard Launched in Canada

Authored by Jay Baage on March 13, 2007 - 9:16am.
Mastercard is launching a prepaid credit card in Canada together with MuchMusic. The prepaid card comes with 10 free music downloads upon sign-up and 15% discounts on purchases from MuchMusic. A youth-helping-youth component is also built in for the Much-branded card, as 10% of net profits go to War Child Canada.

The advertising campaign targets teens 16 and older, but teens aged 13-15 can get their hands on one with permission from parents or legal guardians.

"Kids are maturing, and they are early adopters with all things online. They also have a strong desire to consume content online," CHUM Television VP content business development Maria Hale to Media in Canada.
"The music industry ran into hurdles because kids really don't have an easy and legitimate way to consume that content. We're now making it easier for kids to purchase content legitimately."

MuchMusic is a division of CHUM Limited, the Canadian Music Television Station that is broadcasted over North America.

Note. More on teens and developing online and mobile payment methods will be discussed at DMW's upcoming The Millennials Conference on April 18, 2007, at UCLA in Los Angeles.
