Arlington, Va. - Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive (WPNI), the online publishing unit of The Washington Post Company, said on Tuesday that it has acquired SHOP DC, an online shopping and fashion guide for the D.C.-area founded by former University of Maryland MBA student Zoey Rawlins.

WPNI has relaunched the site as DC Scout on washingtonpost.com.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Rawlins said that she will use a portion of the proceeds to benefit student entrepreneurs at Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business.

Rawlins created SHOP DC two years ago with $7,000 in startup funding from the school's Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship.

The site helps online residential shoppers pinpoint local retailers, fashion trends, events and the best neighborhoods for shopping.

Rawlins has joined WPNI as its brand manager for the online product.
