Mountain View, Calif. - Software giant Microsoft said on Wednesday that it will acquire Tellme Networks, a provider of voice services based on speech recognition technology.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Founded in 1999, Tellme operates its mobile search services on 1-800-555-TELL, helping callers find such information as driving directions, sports scores, stock quotes and weather.

Microsoft said that the acquisition will help it to develop products and services that will help people use voice to find, use and share information.

Tellme, which has more than 320 employees, will continue to operate from its Mountain View, Calif. headquarters as part of Microsoft's Business Division.

The deal is expected to close by mid-year.
